Frequently Asked Questions

If the roof of your Gainesville, GA home is showing signs of wear and tear, you likely have a lot of questions about the next steps to take. Don’t worry—the experts at ET Restorations, LLC have answers! Don’t see your question listed here? Just give us a call, we’ll be happy to provide you with the information you need.

How can a homeowner recognize when a roof system has problems?

Usually, only the more obvious or noticeable roof issues can be seen by the untrained eye. However, you may notice a shingle missing or notice the roof color fading because the granules have begun to weather. Another thing that may point out an issue is a leak through the ceiling inside the home. This should always be taken seriously, no matter how small or minor the leak may seem.

Is re-roofing a viable option for my home?

Re-roofing is the process of layering a new set of shingles over an existing set, as opposed to replacing the roof completely. There is no tear-off involved, making the process simpler, faster, and more affordable. Re-roofing may be right for you if your roof is nearing the end of its lifespan but is still in good condition overall. Keep in mind that re-roofing can only be done once, and only works on roofs with one single layer of shingles. If your roof has suffered major storm damage, it’s more likely that you’ll need a complete replacement.

My roof leaks. Do I need to have it replaced completely?

Not necessarily. Sometimes leaks can be fixed with a repair if they are small. However, if it is a larger scale issue, it can be more beneficial and cost effective to replace the entire roof—especially if you get help from an expert during the insurance claim process! We can often get insurance to cover the replacement cost.

Can I do the work myself and save money?

Often when a homeowner attempts to do a repair themselves, it acts simply as a Band-Aid and later requires more attention from a professional. We would recommend letting one of our trained professionals do your repairs; in return, you will actually end up saving more money in the long run.

How long can I expect my roof system to last?

The average lifespan of a roof depends on the quality and type of shingles installed. For example: three-tab shingles can last 10-12 years on average, and architectural shingles can last 20-30 years on average. All shingles can easily be damaged by wind around year five and damaged by hail at any time.

How do I know what type of roofing shingle is best for my roof?

Our knowledgeable experts can make that determination based on your needs, budget, and aesthetic preferences. Another important factor is the average climate and level of precipitation in your area. Some materials are extremely heat resistant, some are better suited for wet/humid areas, and so on.

What will a new roof system cost?

The cost of a new roof will vary greatly depending on the size of your home, the material you choose, and any extra weatherproofing features you’d like to add. We recommend scheduling an on-site consultation in order to get a more accurate estimate.

What if my new roof leaks?

We provide a two-year workmanship warranty on all our installs, and Owens Corning, the shingle company with which we are a preferred contractor, provides a 10-year workmanship warranty and limited lifetime warranty on their shingles. So, all you need to do is call us and we will help get you taken care of.

I have vegetation growth (moss/algae) on my roof. Does it need to be replaced or can it be cleaned?

Whether you need a replacement or a professional cleaning depends on the severity of damage to the shingles from the moss or lichen that has been on the roof. It can take away from the integrity of the shingles if left too long, and in this case, we may suggest replacement. However, more often than not, we can offer the cleaning option and simply remove the moss and lichen with our soft-wash system, which will not cause any damage to the shingles.
